King Kamehameha III Elementary School is one of the 66 Hawaii Elementary Schools selected to participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program funded by the USDA.
What is the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program?
The USDA in Hawaii makes fresh fruits and vegetables available to students throughout the school day excluding lunch periods. Schools apply to the DOE Office of Hawaii Child Nutrition Programs on a competitive basis annually to receive FFVP reimbursement for the fresh fruit and vegetable snacks.
What is the purpose of the FFVP?
To expand and increase the variety and amount of fruits and vegetables elementary children experience.
To build lifelong healthy eating habits to combat childhood obesity.
The program will run weekly from October 2011 – April 2012.
